A little southern counting lesson: 1,2,3,4,5, Mark Martin, 7,8,9, TRIVIA QUIZ!

Today's question is brought to you by NASCAR who would like to remind you at the Daytona 500 is a mere 13 days away. Football? What football?

In honor of the Colts' Super Bowl win yesterday, I thought I'd honor them with some Indianapolis trivia. And what do we think of when we think of Indianapolis? Well, if you're me, you think of a city that's boring 364 days a year. What happens on that other day? Well, it's the Indianapolis 500!

How many laps make up the 500 miles in the race? What's the average speed of all those cars zooming around?

Good luck!

I'm getting dizzy just thinking about it, but there are 200 laps in the Indy 500. And since the winners go about 205 mph, I'll guess the average speed is something like 180.

Which is approximately the degrees below zero it is here in Chicago.

let's see... a track is what, half a mile? that would make it 1000 laps, but that seems like a lot!

There's 200 laps? Did not know that. If the average winning speed is somewhere around 205, i have to guess that the average overall speed is only a little less that (otherwise the top racers would lap the others zillions of times, right?)

Some maybe.... 201. Yeah. that's it.

Wow, good guesses guys! Everybody deserves a glass of milk :)

So, it's 200 laps, all right. I have a hard time watching an entire race, so thank goodness Fox puts that little lap counter on the screen. Then even I know how far along the race is!

The average speed of those cars these days is 167 mph, which is only slightly faster than the flow of traffic on I-5 (translation for California readers: the 5) at rush hour....oh, excuse me, that's 1.67 mph ;)
