Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to TRIVIA QUIZ???!!!??
Today is You're All Done Day, sponsored by The Long Haul Committee. I have absolutely no clue what this is or if it's a real thing!
Today is National Check the Smoke Alarms Day.
Tonight is First Night, a non-alcoholic alternative New Year's Eve celebration of the arts, planned tonight in over 140 U.S. and Canadian cities. The first First Night in 1976 was in Boston, where 1-million are expected to attend 250 shows today and tonight. At Raleigh's, they drop a giant acorn (it is the City of Oaks, after all).
On this day in 1929, Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians played their theme song, "Auld Lang Syne," to usher in the new year at New York City's Hotel Roosevelt Grill, the beginning of a tradition. It means "old long since" or days gone by.
On this day in 1985, a 54,500-member musical ensemble played "Bicycle Built For Two" in downtown Rochester, New York, on kazoos.
On this day in 1991, the U.S. issued a patent (#5,076,262) to Brian Coffey of Portland, Oregon, for his Ear Flattening Device, tiny flexible pads with pressure-sensitive adhesive on both sides to stick behind a person's ears to keep them from sticking out.
OK, here's some trivia for you... on this day in 1879, the cornerstone was laid for the only royal palace in the United States. What state has this palace? Bonus points if you know the name of the palace!
Good luck :)

Well, it's certainly not the Corn Palace in South Dakota!
I believe the Royal Palace is in Hawaii and belonged to King Kamehameha.
Happy 2008, everyone!
Yup, it's the Iolani Palace in Hawaii. JD's on a roll!
