Today is Freethinker's Day, always on the birthday of corset maker and American revolutionary Thomas Paine.
On this day in 1951, Elizabeth Taylor divorced her first husband, Conrad Hilton Jr.
On this day in 1962, Warner Brothers Records signed a Grenwich Village trio called Peter, Paul, and Mary. Peter Yarrow was a folk singer; Paul Stookey, a standup comic, and Mary Travers was a Broadway chorus girl.

On this day in 1990, when a Houston bandit pointed two pistols at store clerk Wazir Jrwi, Jrwi offered to pay $200 each for the guns. The robber agreed, handed over the pistols, and then tried to leave with the store’s cash. Jrwi, who had electronically locked the doors, agreed to let the bandit leave without the money.
And now, le Trivia! The first baseball Hall of Fame inductions occured on this day in 1936. The first two to become members of the Hall of Fame were Ty Cobb and...who?
Good luck :)

i'll guess hank aaron, although i have no idea. Also, how do you think you pronounce "Jrwi"?
Were there just two in 1936? I would think it has to be Babe Ruth, though I was pretty sure Lou Gehrig was a member of the first HOF class....
I hate to break it to you Kim, but I'm pretty sure that's about forty years too early for Hank Aaron. :) I'll second Jon's guess of the Babe.
Also, what's A Mighty Wind?
Um, so I cheated and looked up the answer. And while we're not wrong on Babe Ruth, Wikipedia says that there were actually five guys elected that first year (although sadly Gehrig was not among them, Jon). Is it possible that you are consulting some source even more unreliable than Wikipedia, Rob (if such a thing exists)? :)
So the answer I had in mind was Babe Ruth.
But, as Laine and JD have pointed out there were more than two people who joined the Hall Of Fame that year. So, I hereby toss out this question :) The mistake was mine, as my source did mention that they were "included" in the inductions that year.
And Laine, while I commend your research, I must say I'm sad to hear that you haven't seen the movie A Mighty Wind because it is, in a word, AWESOME!
JD, thank you for answering what I meant, and not what I ended up typing :)
Kim, clearly you're a card-carrying member of the Hank Aaaron fan club ;) And I thought the same thing about that name when I read it...or at least attempted to read it!
hehe, as you can tell, i am clearly a raging baseball fan :)
